Today in literacy we had a cross ability inferencing Reading session. We were looking at what inferencing is and how to use clues in the text to solve inference questions. To do this we played the game River Crossing Puzzle. This is a problem solving game where you have to get the family across the river by following the rules. The way we looked at inference questions were the learners were given clues to help solve the puzzle. They had to use their Capabilities and Collaboration skills to discuss how the clue helps. They used their reading Capabilities to link the clues to the text (the instructions).
Here is what the learners learnt:
Aditi: Today I learnt how to inference. We played a game called river crossing where you have to talk to others. You have look a the puzzle carefully at the text to figure out the answer.
Brian: Today I have learn that inferencing is by share ideas to other people and they share answers to you so you and your partners can figure it out.
Maanvi:Today I learned to Inference. We played a game and I did Inferencing. It means to solve out the meaning of the text, estimate, find the clues and show don’t tell
Kavish: Today I have learned about Inferencing that means you have to take the clues from the text and and find it.
Christian:I learnt what inferencing means, it is solving clues and mysteries.
Amolak: I learnt that inferencing means share ideas and solving clues.
Katherine: I learnt that inference is where you Collaborate with your ideas with other people and find the meaning in the text.
